Sheikh Jassim Al Thani in collaboration with a French Hospitality Giant, ACCOR, established Hotel Sofitel Doha Palace in October 1982. In January 2004 the hotel was re-branded as Mercure Grand Hotel Doha City Centre by Sheikh Khalid Bin Jassim Al Thani. Major renovations had already been done and yet another phase of renovations are on the line with the re-branding of the hotel.
